Mandela Day 2024

Marist Brothers Linmeyer – Mandela Day 2024

By Mandela Day 2024, Marist Brothers Linmeyer No Comments

We commemorated Mandela Day, a day deeply rooted in our Marist characteristic of Simplicity, by setting a challenge for our students to collect 670 cans of soup to donate to our charities. The number “67” represents the years Nelson Mandela fought for human rights.

We arranged the cans of soup in the High School quadrangle to form the number 46664, symbolising Mandela’s prison number and his enduring fight for freedom. The cans of soup will then be distributed to our charities.

Furthermore, we invited all of our parents, grandparents, friends and teachers to dedicate 67 minutes to making sandwiches for the less privileged in our MRC amphitheatre. The sandwiches and soup cans are now packed and ready for distribution to those in need in our local community.

It was truly heartwarming to receive such generous donations from all our students, parents, guardians and staff. We thank you once again for being a part of our one-school initiative at Marist Brothers Linmeyer.

The College Gents went above and beyond today in an effort to pack as many bags of ready-to-make soup as they could as part of their 67 minutes contribution to the #MandelaDay effort. 😁

The completed bags will be donated to Bet on Better, who will be distributing the bags to ECD schools and communities in the Groot Marico district (North-West Province) where children receive meals. Additionally, we will also be distributing bags in Alexandra through St Hubert’s Catholic Church. 🫶

Thank you to everyone involved in this great cause. #StDavidsMaristIanda #67Minutes #FamilySpirit

Mandela Day 2024 – St Henry’s Marist College

Celebrating Mandela Day, our entire school community came together to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela with special acts of kindness!

Our PP/JP students united to make care packages for the Angel Wings Charity. Grade 3s and Grade 1s paired up to make sandwiches, Grade 2s added fruit, chips and a chocolate to each bag, and our little artists from Grade 000 – R drew heartfelt cards to attach to each pack. These care packages were lovingly prepared, spreading smiles and hope in our community. Thank you to all our students, teachers, and parents for making this possible. Special thanks to Fr Sean for joining us this morning.

Meanwhile, our Grades 4-12 students united for Mandela Day by each bringing a packet of soup to support KHULA Education. This amazing organisation provides vital assistance to rural schools and underserved communities in KwaZulu-Natal. They then gathered to sing the South African anthem in tribute to Nelson Mandela, proudly standing in the formation of “67” to celebrate the 67 years he dedicated to fighting for freedom and justice.

A big thank you to all our students, teachers and parents for making this possible. Special thanks to Fr Sean for joining us this morning.
