Celebrating Champagnat Day – St Henry’s Marist College

By Celebrating Champagnat 2024, St Henry’s Marist College No Comments

Today, we gathered to celebrate the feast of St Marcellin Champagnat, our Marist founder!

During our Champagnat Day Mass, students, teachers, alumni and invited guests gathered to worship and reflect on the teachings of St Marcellin Champagnat. The Champagnat Day Pledges were presented by each class, committing to acts of service for others. A truly remarkable way to pay tribute to the founder of our Marist schools, fostering the spirit of compassion and dedication that St Marcellin Champagnat embodied.

Marist Mercy Care is one of the largest non-profit organisations in the Sundays River Valley. They run a number of incredibly enriching community based initiatives throughout the year that add great value to the lives of the children, youth and aged in the area. Student leaders of the Marist Schools in South Africa volunteered at the December summer camp which was attended by over 400 children in the Addo area to add fun and learning to their Christmas holidays.

Valedictory – St Henry’s Marist College

By St Henry’s Marist College No Comments
Our Valedictory Day was held on Friday, 13 October and marked the last official day for our Grade 12 students. The day began with the Valedictory Mass for the Grade 12’s and their parents. The theme of the mass was a quote from Pope John Paul II and was an apt focus for all in attendance. “Allow the light and the healing presence of Christ to shine brightly through your lives. In that way, all those who come in contact with you will discover the loving kindness of God.” – Pope John Paul II.
This was then followed by a High Tea and the much anticipated Awards Ceremony, recognising academic achievers. The day culminates in a bell ringing ceremony for the Grade 12s. As has become tradition, the ringing of the bell in the bell tower symbolises the end of their journey at St Henry’s Marist College.
This is a very special moment for the Grade 12 students and something they look forward to, having been part of the farewell tunnel in previous years. After each name is called, the student rings the bell and walks through the tunnel of students from the whole college to say their farewells. We wish the Matric Class of 2023 all the best for their final examinations!

Joint Rosary Prayer 2023

By Dominican Convent Belgravia, Homepage news, Marist Brothers Linmeyer, Sacred Heart College, St David’s Marist Inanda, St Henry’s Marist College, St Joseph's Marist College

Every year, the Marist Schools in South Africa set aside an hour in October to say a decade of the Rosary during this special month. October is seen as the month of the Rosary due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on 7 October. As Marists, we have a special devotion to Mary and it is important to us to mark this month in a way that brings us all together in prayer.
